Weight
Weight is now an issue of considerable
concern in the UK. Many of us live less active lives as a result of technology,
and being time poor means often eating unhealthy foods at inappropriate
times and speeds. And temptation is everywhere! At the same time we are
constantly subjected to images of thin and glamorous people in the media.
It can all get very confusing, and unlike smoking we have to eat, we
can't simply give up. It is important to ensure that there is no physiological
condition involved in weight gain, and it may be useful to see your GP
if you suspect that this might be the case.
Weight can be a very complex issue with many different underlying causes,
and understanding what might drive an individuals eating pattern can be
vital in helping long term weight loss. People get trapped in a dieting
cycle of weight loss/weight gain which can be very distressing.
Recognising the roots of overeating and creating a long term program
based around an understanding of each individuals drives and patterns
can be very effective. Any diet that creates feelings of deprivation
is likely to be a short term solution, as our bodies' natural evolutionary
response to deprivation is to eat! Together we can learn to understand
your eating patterns and find the most effective solution. It is worth
noting that the latest research suggests that exercise has little effect
on weight loss, but being fit and healthy will increase wellbeing.
